Development Director, part-time
LA PALESTRA KIDS (LPK), a registered 501-(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a unique early childhood health education program serving at risk families and their communities. LPK began as a non-profit initiative in 2012 of LA PALESTRA, the Center for Preventative Medicine (CPM), an integrative health care facility located in New York City.
LPK’s specific mission is to improve the quality of life for children and their families by providing classes that integrate and promote a holistic approach to exercise, nutrition, and socialization. Currently, the Foundation provides developmentally appropriate health classes to children and their families in five NYC locations; the Association to Benefit Children (ABC), the Police Athletic League (PAL); Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center (LSNC), Hartley House, and Union Settlement House, engaging over 1000 children per year, ages five months to ten years of age.
The Development Director will initiate and oversee all development efforts as LPK continues to grow, reporting to the Board of Directors and Program Director. Primary responsibilities include:
Developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan that identifies, cultivates and secures donations from varied sources, including but not limited to corporate funding, foundation giving, grant-based giving and individuals.
Developing and stewarding ongoing relationships with donors.
Handling, supervising and tracking all written material including proposals and reports, receipt of donation letters, inquiries and needed reports for all fundraising endeavors.
Meeting with accounting on a bi-weekly basis to review and reconcile donations and expenditures.
Assessing and implementing other fundraising sources and initiatives such as Amazon Smile, Company Matching, Crowdrise, etc.
Creation and management of organization fundraising goals set at special events.
Scheduling Board of Director Meetings for periodic financial updates.
We seek motivated candidates with the following qualifications:
BA (required), graduate degree (MA/MS/PhD) in a related field (non-profit management, social work, child development) preferred.
2 years experience in non-profit development and/or fundraising.
2 years grant writing experience.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and communication skills
Knowledge and interest in LPK’s core mission of early intervention in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle with at risk populations of children and their families.
