Position Summary:
The Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship Programs is responsible for creating, implementing and managing annual giving campaigns, including year-round stewardship communication pieces. This position plays a key role in the development unit in raising funds, identifying major gift prospects and increasing the overall number of annual giving donors. This includes the coordination of a year-round acquisition program that involves donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and retention through direct mail, and online communications and solicitations. The Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship Programs will work closely with the Executive Director of Development Services, the California 4-H Foundation Director and the entire Development Services unit to provide outreach, activities and events to attain and maintain a robust annual giving program. The Director will conduct small donor events as part of the stewardship process for key stakeholders including California 4-H Alumni and Friends, the Vice President's Circle, UC ANR Retiree and Emeriti, etc. The Director is the key resource for internal partners to provide guidance and training to build their capacity to raise money using best practices as well as adhere to UC policies.

The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) comprises 57 County Cooperative Extension Offices, 9 Research and Extension Centers and 8 Statewide Programs and 2 institutes, and has an operating budget of more than $190 million. The ANR Development Services Office is a small team of development professionals which provides leadership, coordination and support services to assist ANR accomplish its research and extension mission and meet highest-priority needs through philanthropic support.

This is a critical position and subject to a background and credit check to comply with security requirements for handling and processing cash, large checks, securities and other gifts, and to protect the UC, UC ANR, California 4-H Foundation, and donors against unauthorized disclosure of confidential work-related information, including but not limited to donor financial information or anonymity.
-Work occasional evenings and weekends to attend fundraising events, visit with donors and prospects, and to meet operational needs.
-Must be willing to travel in and out of the Davis region.
-Mandatory responsibility for knowing and complying with the Code of Conduct standards and the Compliance Program.
-Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
-As of January 1, 2014, ANR is a smoke- and tobacco-free environment in which smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes), is strictly prohibited.

Job Close Date:

Duty 1: - Work closely with Executive Director of Development Services and the California 4-H Foundation Director to create and implement annual fundraising plan to engage donors and prospects to increase private philanthropic gift support for the UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the California 4-H Foundation.
- Ensure that all aspects of annual giving programs are managed consistently, are coordinated with other giving campaigns and are compatible with the mission of the UC ANR County and Statewide Programs, and California 4-H Foundation fundraising priorities.
- Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge about the mission, programs, priorities and strategic issues impacting UC ANR and the California 4-H Youth Development Program in order to develop a specific strategy to brand annual giving campaigns for each constituency.
- Project, track and meet fundraising goals for annual support through various fundraising platforms.
- Develop and implement annual and long-term strategies for building the donor file, identify major gift prospects, increase annual gift size, and donor retention.
- Develop, oversee and report on the budget, revenue and expenses for each element of the annual giving program with the goal of improving ROI.
- Based on annual and long-term goals, conduct ongoing, thorough assessment of performance against goals through detailed statistical analysis of the donor pool, response rates, and ROI. Establishment of clear benchmarks for these goals is critical.
- Develop and maintain a master calendar for all phases of annual giving including direct mail, online giving, newsletters, annual report and events.
- Draft all written and online communications for annual giving campaigns including direct mail appeals, email appeals, social media campaigns such as Giving Tuesday, stewardship, direct mail and email communications, copy for the website, acknowledgement letters, and other Development-related copy as assigned. In collaboration with the CA 4-H Foundation Director, formulate and execute a communications program supporting annual giving, including the development of supporting marketing collateral, e-newsletters, annual giving case statements and online campaigns.
- Spearhead the creative development, list selection, production and distribution of direct mail appeals. Manage relationships with vendors such as designers, printers and mail houses.
- Create strategies for supporting email list growth. Assist in the identification of content for emails and the UC ANR and 4-H Foundation webpages that can be integrated into direct mail and online appeals, as well as all social media activities, all designed to optimize overall annual giving fundraising.
- Work with the Database Manager to ensure the proper recording, tracking and timely acknowledgement of gifts from annual giving donors.
- Wherever possible, include volunteer engagement opportunities into annual giving communications and fundraising strategies.

Duty 2: - Develop and implement year-round calendar of stewardship communications with key stakeholder groups, including 4-H Alumni and Friends, the Vice President's Circle and UC ANR Retiree and Emeriti. The purpose of these efforts is to cultivate relationships, recognize and retain donors.
- Develop and execute a small number of stewardship, donor recognition and prospect cultivation events, ensuring successful outcomes by meeting deadlines and budgets, analyzing results and making recommendations for future events. Stewardship events include those for the Vice President's Circle, ANR Retirees and Emeriti, CA 4-H Foundation as well as key ANR stakeholders.
- Maintain appropriate donor and prospect lists such as VIP lists for events and personalized communications to support the fundraising and stewardship efforts of the Executive Director of Development Services, the California 4-H Foundation Director, 4-H Foundation Board of Directors and UC ANR senior leadership.
- Create collateral materials for donor acknowledgment and retention such as thank you letters, newsletters, annual reports and endowment reports.
- Create and execute a donor stewardship plan with specific actions to take throughout the year to recognize and retain donors

Duty 3: - Provide expert advice and guidance about fundraising priorities and strategies and work with leadership, program staff and volunteers both statewide and at the county level to increase their understanding of and ability to raise unrestricted funds and as well as gifts to support priority programs and initiatives.
- Create opportunities for staff and volunteers to develop their fundraising skills through in person and web-based professional development presentations and trainings.
- Develop templates for commonly needed tools, such as fundraising business plans and presentations to share with stakeholders and potential funders, annual appeals, and online and offline messaging.
- Work with counties to enhance their new donor recruitment efforts to expand donor file.
Function:Build Fundraising Capacity of County & Statewide Programs

Duty 4: - Monitor and regularly review donor pipeline and analyze giving patterns in order to identify donors ready for major gifts consideration.
- Collaborate with Development management and Major Gifts team in the development of identification, cultivation and stewardship opportunities for major gift donors and prospects.

Job Requirements
-Bachelor's degree or equivalent work-related experience in related field.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in development and fundraising with history of consistently achieving fundraising goals.
- Demonstrated fundraising success with a specific focus on annual giving and donor communications.
- Advanced knowledge of all aspects of annual giving campaigns including direct mail, email, and online giving campaigns.
- Proven experience in creating excellent written communication appropriate for the audience and communication medium utilized.
- Experience with presentations using a variety of methods to internal audiences. These will include in person and web-based presentations to various sized groups ranging from technical trainings to broad overviews.
- Demonstrated experience in using computer software applications including database applications, MS Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience working in environment requiring building strong internal partnerships.
- Proven experience in the creation and implementation of successful annual giving and communication campaigns.
- Increased number of donors in organization's database.
- Created benchmark reports showing campaign results against goals/benchmarks.

- Demonstrated experience in special events fundraising including event planning and implantation.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations related to fundraising.
- Knowledge and experience in fundraising for agriculture, natural resources, or youth organizations.
- Skilled in Raiser's Edge and/or NXT.
- Strong experience coordinating with multiple stakeholder groups to create successful fundraising events.
- Demonstrated experience effectively working with volunteer boards and programs.
-Experience with cause related marketing campaigns.
- Experience with crowdfunding platforms.
