GRID Alternatives is the country’s largest nonprofit solar installer. GRID is an entrepreneurial, high-growth non-profit organization that provides renewable energy and energy efficiency services to low-income families. Through its flagship Solar Affordable Housing Program, GRID trains and leads teams of volunteers and job trainees to install solar electric systems for low-income families and affordable housing providers, providing long-term savings for the people who need them the most. In turn, low-income families are able to use their long-term savings to pay for basic expenses, and expand their economic opportunity by employing the skills and training they gained through GRID’s workforce development programs, in the growing field of solar installation. GRID’s vision is a successful transition to clean, renewable energy that includes everyone.
We are looking for a Development Manager to help further our mission by leading our philanthropic fundraising efforts for the Mid-Atlantic affiliate office. The office currently covers Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware; and is physically located in Washington, DC. The Development Manager will develop and implement a strategic plan to meet and exceed our fundraising goals for individual, corporate and foundation giving.
Meet and exceed budget revenue goals from individuals, corporations, and foundations throughout the region in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Strategic Partnerships Manager, as well as the Development and Communications Team.
Solicit corporate and group donors for our workday program and other opportunities.
Manage grant proposals to foundations including researching opportunities, managing deadlines, writing proposals, and managing reports and budgets.
Create and implement local campaigns and cultivation events to build awareness of our programming and assist in exceeding our fundraising goals.
Manage the application process for state and local government funding.
Represent the organization to potential donors, funders, sponsors, and the general community.
Collaborate with the Executive Director, the Strategic Partnerships Manager, the Headquarters National Development Team, and the Mid-Atlantic Development and Communications Team.
Manage the Mid-Atlantic Development Assistant.

Professional experience in nonprofit fundraising. Substituting other equivalent experience will only be considered for a candidate who makes a compelling case in their cover letter.
High level of comfort with directly asking individuals and institutions for funding.
Excellent interpersonal, phone, and written communication skills. You must be able to meet directly with funders/sponsors and speak effectively, professionally, and passionately about the work of the organization, as well as communicate effectively and professionally via email, phone, and in formal written proposals.
Comfortable working as part of a team in a hard-working, informal office environment.
Passion for environmental justice and working with low-income communities, sustainability, renewable energy, affordable housing, and/or the environment.
Existing relationships with potential Mid-Atlantic donors/corporate sponsors/foundations.
Experience living and/or working in economically disadvantaged communities and with diverse populations.
Proficient with computers and MS Office; Salesforce.com is a plus.
Flexible and willing to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to a rapidly growing organization.
This position is located in Washington DC and requires some travel to sites throughout the office territory of Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. Availability to work nights and weekends maybe required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use, but applicant must hold a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
This is a full-time exempt positions. Salary commensurate with experience
