About the Role:
The Fund seeks a full-time Manager of Institutional Relations
with a talent and passion for writing, strong organizational and project-management skills and a commitment to human rights to play a critical role in a busy fundraising department. They will manage a large portfolio of grants from foundations, governments, and corporations that support the Fund’s work, in general, and our programs in North, West and Central Africa, in particular.
The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Director of Institutional Relations as part of a talented, five-person Institutional Relations team to help the Fund meet its growing organizational fundraising revenue goals from institutions across the US and Europe (currently about $11.5 million annually).

(Interim) Vice President for Development and Communications; Director of Institutional Relations
This position would ideally be based in Washington, DC, New York, or London.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Where You’ll Make the Most Impact
Fundraising & Development
Actively participate in planning annual and long-term objectives of Development and Communications Department
Manage a portfolio of current and prospective foundation, corporate, and bilateral donors, including those giving six-figure grants, with a focus on grants supporting the Fund’s programs in Africa
Develop and draft compelling grant proposals and reports for institutional funders and prospects, persuasively communicating the Fund’s mission and programs
Read grantee reports in French and English and synthesize information for proposals and reports
Develop and maintain strong relationships with program staff to manage project budgets and activities, learn about programmatic developments, and drive forward programmatic growth goals by matching with funding opportunities
Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors and prospects to keep them informed about programmatic developments and elicit support for the Fund’s growth
Represent the Fund in external outreach and networking spaces with the goal of building the Fund’s network of prospects
Devise cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for institutional donors
Innovate and implement new systems to improve database functionality and workflow
Track communications related to current, pending, and prospective grants in Salesforce database; ensure that all deadlines are met; monitor and ensure the Fund's compliance with grant requirements
Research foundation and individual donor prospects and help devise, track and manage solicitation plans
Assist in donor engagement strategies, event planning and related tasks as needed
Build and strengthen relationships with staff, board, and trustees to ensure robust engagement
Donor Advised Grants/Funds Management & Strategy
Oversee the Fund’s Donor-Advised Grants/Funds portfolio (currently representing one-third of the Fund’s $10 million grant-making budget), including donor stewardship, cultivation, and reporting
Work with Director of Grants Management and Fund legal counsel to develop systems for grant monitoring and ensure full legal compliance
With the VP for Development & Communications and the VP for Operations, lead the Fund’s outreach strategy to grow the portfolio and maximize this as a revenue stream
Demonstrated commitment to human rights and familiarity with human rights issues; familiarity with and/or experience working in Africa a plus
4-6 years of development and fundraising experience
Familiarity with the Fund’s programs and/or experience with grant writing norms and procedures
Established excellence persuasive and compelling writing
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
Highly organized, enjoys creating systems, and able to manage projects
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; comfort with Salesforce highly desired
Fluency in English and proficiency in French highly desirable; fluency in Arabic, Spanish, Thai, or Burmese a plus
