Community Health Action of Staten Island

seek an energetic, organized, and experienced Director of Development to lead its fundraising operations. Brightpoint Health is a recognized leader in the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, integrated care resulting in improved health outcomes for people, families, and communities challenged by health disparities caused by poverty, discrimination and lack of access. In 2016, Brightpoint Health and Staten Island-based, Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) merged to provide more comprehensive services to all New Yorkers. For more than 25 years, CHASI has provided access to an extensive range of tailored high-quality behavioral health care and social support services to Staten Island residents. This position will be an exciting challenge for the right candidate. The Director of Development will serve executives from both organizations

the position will report to the CHASI Executive Director as well as provide leadership and

support to Brightpoint’s President/CEO, the joint Board of Trustees, and both organizations’ standing Development

Committees. The Director of Development will be expected to travel between, and ope

rate out of, both Brightpoint’s Manhattan headquarters and CHASI’s Staten Island headquarters. The Director of Development will act as a “first face” for donors and prospective donors, as well as be the voice of Brightpoint Health/CHASI. The Director of

Development must have excellent communication skills and be entrepreneurial, efficient, and creative in designing compelling opportunities for donor support, including making the donor experience both satisfying and rewarding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop annual fundraising plan with the CEO/President, Executive Director and Board members to enhance and diversify agency resources;

Identify, engage, solicit and steward donors;

Plan and execute an acquisition plan for donors at all levels of gift;

Work with the Director of Communications to market appeal through e-blasts, website, mailings, annual

report, and social media;

Implement the corporate giving program;

Manage and oversee fundraising events, as well other cultivation and stewardship events;

Collaborate with the Executive Director and both Development Committees on feasibility, planning and

execution of a campaign or campaigns for identified needs;

Oversee the Foundations and Corporations program, working with other staff and/or consultants to write

and manage grants as needed;

Oversee annual donor stewardship efforts;

Track hours and contributions for committee members and volunteers, analyze data, and produce reports

as requested relevant to development activities;

Demonstrate ability to learn and navigate new software and be proficient in digital technology;

Develop a state of the art research program to identify new donors, approach those donors using Board

and community connections where possible;

Working with the President/CEO and the Executive Director, develop strategic plans for recruiting new

Board members; and

Work on special projects as needed and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the

President/CEO and Executive Director.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A candidate for the Director of Development Position must have a mini

mum five years’ experience in fundraising,

including; individual giving, soliciting major gifts and event management. Excellent communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills are also necessary. Further, the candidate must be well organized, have a great attention to detail, be a self-starter, work well with a diverse range of people and be able to see the work within the big picture. The candidate must be able to work independently, take initiative, solve problems and manage multiple tasks. The ideal candidate will have their CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, service data, contracts, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and professional journals. Ability to write reports, policy and procedure manuals, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, staff, managers, funders, policy makers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
