Summary

The Marin School, an independent college-preparatory high school in San Rafael, California, seeks a full-time experienced

Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

The Director of Development and Alumni Relations will plan and manage all fundraising

activities of The Marin School and will lead the engagement activities of the School with respect to all donors, TMS alumni and parents This position is responsible for planning and successfully organizing a program to meet or exceed the budgeted fundraising goals for TMS. They will create a strategy and manage logistics for all fundraising activities and partner with the Head of School to increase revenue and ensure growth in participation rates across constituencies. They will serve as the primary coordinator of prospect research to plan and envision new fundraising opportunities.

The position is highly collaborative. The Director of Development and Alumni Relations will work closely with the Head of School, the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Director of Communications and Special Events, and other members of the faculty and staff, as well as volunteers, in implementing The Marin School’s development efforts. While working in a collaborative style, they will also use discretion and independent judgment to manage all fundraising programs.

The Director of Development and Alumni Relations, in collaboration with the Head of School, will be responsible for the following tasks:

Maintain and refine all fundraising strategies, goal, and benchmarks

Responsible for all aspects of annual fundraising activities including but not limited to:

Annual Fund

Recruit and manage 8-12 Annual Fund parent volunteers who work from September - February

With the Head of School and Director of Communications, design the strategy, theme, messaging, communications, and calendar for the Annual Fund

With the Head of School conduct donor research, organize constituency segmentation and target solicitation amounts

Prepare all solicitations, pledge reminders and the Annual Report

Manage information from corporate matching programs’ portals

Conduct consistent and thorough constituent updates in the database

Annual Gala/TMS Auction

Solicit and market items for our live and online auction using Bidding for Good software

Organize, market and run a dinner/dance event

Recruit and manage 6-10 Gala Committee parent volunteers from February - May.

Alumni Reunion

Organize one reunion per year

Organize additional periodic alumni engagement events

Major donor appreciation events

Plan Leadership event to kick-off Annual Fund

Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day

Plan and execute day to keep grandparents engaged

Other donor cultivation/recognition projects

Spearhead new fundraising activities where appropriate

Compile prospect and donor research reports

Develop and execute an Alumni program.

Cultivate new sources of major gifts and institutional grants

Maintain and cultivate current relationships, including writing and submitting proposals and grant reports to institutional donors

Solicit new donors, as well as increase gifts from current donors

Maintain and refine an effective program for recognition and stewardship of all donors

Supervise fundraising-related activities, including donor records and gift receipts, (currently using Little Green Light as our donor management software)

Participate in development budgeting, strategic planning, and Board development;

Provide staff support to the Development Committee of the Board of Directors

Work closely with and support Board of Directors in their fundraising activities,including regular check-ins with individual board members, and guidance of board members’ donor stewardship activities;

Prepare fundraising reports for the Head of School and Board of Directors on a regular basis;

Prepare donor data analysis for review by the Head of School, Development Committee and full board as needed;

Supervise a 40% time Development Coordinator. As needed, and as annual fundraising efforts are successful and grow, manage the expansion of development staff

Conduct other related projects and duties as determined by the Head of School

Requirements and Qualifications

Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality

Technology skills sufficient to fulfill job responsibilities; experience using G Suite (gmail, Google Docs, Google calendar, etc.) and Microsoft Office is required. Experience using Network for Good, Bidding for Good, Wealth Engine and Little Green Light is a plus.

Must understand and enjoy working in an independent school environment

Undergraduate degree and 3 years of fundraising experience in a non-profit institution, preferably with an independent school

Some evening/weekend work required
