Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Development for the College of the Arts (COTA) is a frontline fundraiser and the primary relationship manager for a select portfolio of prospects, with the goal of soliciting gifts of $5,000 or more. With a primary emphasis on increased giving for the COTA\u2019s specific priorities, the Assistant Director will manage their portfolio through all phases of the development process. The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Director of Development for the College of the Arts, and provides support for their work with major and principal gift prospects. This employee will work collaboratively with central Foundation staff, College development staff, faculty and leaders in planning and implementing solicitation strategies that are most beneficial to the advancement of the College. The Assistant Director will also have responsibilities related to COTA development program administration, including: annual and strategic development planning; donor stewardship and recognition; external communications; philanthropic scholarships, fellowships, prizes and other funds; annual fund appeals; events; and other related administrative functions. Essential Functions and Qualifications: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. -Manage a portfolio of individual prospects through all phases of the development process including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; initiate, design, and execute strategies for assigned prospects based on the capacity for support, existing relationships with PSU and alignment of University priorities. -Develop fundraising strategies to move donors up the giving pyramid, identify and cultivate new donors, and identify special and major gifts prospects. -Provide leadership on individualized donor stewardship for donors in portfolio with giving of $5,000 or more. -Provide support to faculty related to developing philanthropic support for their projects and programs. -Collaborate with the COTA Senior Director of Development, Development Coordinator, annual fund staff and other appropriate colleagues to establish goals and execute strategies for annual giving. -Work closely and develop strong relationships with the dean, directors, faculty and other key staff members in the COTA. Keep abreast of developments in the field(s), news in the Schools, and related information. -Provide briefings, assist in the preparation of proposals, and provide other support for the Senior Director of Development\u2019s work with major and principal gift prospects. -Coordinate alumni, donor and prospect communications and invitations to a variety of events in partnership with the COTA\u2019s communications team. -Participate in annual and strategic development planning for the COTA. -Assist with COTA donor stewardship and recognition programs and collateral. -Assist with the administration of systems and processes for awarding philanthropic scholarships, fellowships, and prizes, in order to uphold donor criteria and steward relationships. -Attend a variety of COTA and University events, with a primary goal of cultivating relationships. -Support event managers as needed in coordination details for events that involve external audiences, alumni, donors, and prospects of the COTA. -Limited travel in local, state and national geographic areas. -Positively represent the COTA and the University in public and professional organizations. -Carry out other duties as assigned. Required Educations and Qualifications: -Bachelor\u2019s degree. -Minimum two years of relevant fundraising experience including proven success in securing five-figure gifts and grants. -Demonstrated experience in writing proposals and stewardship reports for donors. -A strong track record in managing multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment. -Evidence of successful performance in a highly collaborative, team-oriented organization. -Able to travel and work evenings and weekends. -Demonstrated computer proficiency is a must including experience using MS office applications, Google mail, Google Docs. -Successful completion of background check is required if an offer is extended. Preferred Qualifications -Fundraising experience in higher education preferred, particularly a large, public institution, or comparable complex organization. -Familiarity with donor databases. -Knowledge of Portland\u2019s donor community. -Familiarity with visual or performing arts programs.
