Job Description:

Harlem United is requesting submissions from an organization or individual fundraising consultants with a proven track record in the ability to conduct targeted fundraising campaign planning studies, as well as to develop and execute a campaign plan to raise funds associated with the upcoming Harlem United 30


Anniversary. We seek an expert with distinguished fundraising experience and demonstrated ability to be both highly strategic and tactically effective to assist our organization with expanding our donor base, identifying new business, and building long-term donor relationships that are sustainable by Harlem United. We would love for you to bring your personality, creativity and ideas.

Organization Background

Harlem United’s over 300 employees serve more than 16,000 New Yorkers per year in Harlem and beyond. We provide over 750 units of supportive housing and diverse programs that range from primary and mental health care for youth to seniors, support for the LGBT community, to syringe exchange and other harm reduction programs, HIV and HEP C testing and treatment, a day program for HIV-positive, low-income New Yorkers, and many more.

The purpose of this Request for Proposal is to retain a Fundraising Consultant who will:

PHASE 1 – Campaign Assessment and Plan

Conduct confidential interviews with top donor prospects.

Refine internal capacity and needs including existing staff and volunteer requirements for the campaign.

Develop campaign plan and calendar.

Development of a case statement.

Work with staff to develop budget and approval processes to present to the Board.

Grant writing and outreach to foundations and state funding sources.

Staff and Board education and training.

PHASE 2 – Campaign Implementation and Launch

Identify donors

Set goal benchmarks (gift charts) and develop campaign fundraising strategy and timing.

Collaborate with Marketing Director and Event Consultant to refine campaign donor packet content

Donor stewardship and cultivation.

Bridge campaign relationships between major donors and Harlem United for on-going stewardship by Harlem United staff, Executive Team, and/or Board of Directors.

Identify opportunities for donor recognition and naming opportunities

Assist with proposals to national foundations and corporations.

Identify public financing options (federal, state, local) where applicable

PHASE 3 – Campaign Management

Focus on active cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects.

Manage the public information and public relations plan.

Harlem United shall be solely responsible for compliance with IRS charity donation acknowledgement letters for all donations received, however acknowledgement letters will be based on the consultant’s reports of donations.

This is a consulting engagement, not a full‐time position.

The length of engagement is a maximum 6 months in 2018 for a total goal raised and collected of $225,000 or above

. Special consideration given to those organizations or individuals with public relations experience. Please send a proposal for these services, including an indication of the number of hours per month required to do this work.
