Job Description:

Philip’s Education Partners is seeking a qualified candidate for Director of Development. The qualified candidate will be responsible for all fundraising initiatives and activities of the organization, including the development and implementation of the annual giving plan, cultivating and maintaining relationships with new and existing donors, building a Major Gifts Program and writing grant proposals. The Director is also responsible for all special events and functions related to fundraising.

As a member of the senior management team, the Director participates in strategic planning and budget initiatives in addition to problem solving. The Director of Development will work with the various staff members under the direction of the CEO. The current overall fundraising goal is $1,800,000.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising:

Fosters an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.

Manages and leads efforts to expand the foundation fundraising program, including renewing and upgrading current supporters, identifying and cultivating new prospects, writing proposals and reports, and overseeing all stewardship activities.

Facilitates the creation of fundraising plans, including annual and long-term income goals and strategies, in consultation with the CEO and the Board.

Manages and directs the activities of the Advancement Office; serves as a proactive frontline fundraiser establishing, prioritizing and coordinating PEP’s fundraising.

Collaborates with the Board of Trustees and CEO to create an annual fund development plan that increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization.

Develops and strengthens processes that can identify, cultivate and solicit major donors.

Leads and directs the plan to create and expand a Major Donor prospect cultivation and donor stewardship program.

Oversees fund proposal development and preparation, including proposal writing and budget development.

Plans and manages special events including those for donor recognition and cultivation that maximize exposure to Philip’s Education Partners.

Manages and monitors all day-to-day development activities, implementation of development plans and budgets, and overseeing and/or establishing development office systems and procedures.

Serve as the primary administrative liaison to the Development Committee of the Board and as a resource for the Finance Committee of the Board.

Manages the fund-raising database and the tracking of donations and donor cultivation.

Oversees gift record management and the donor recognition process.

Communications:

Develops a comprehensive communications plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.

Builds relationships with community stakeholders to advance mission and fundraising goals of the organization.

Coordinates the design, creation and distribution of marketing and communication efforts including acting as a consultant for all other and online fundraising materials.

Articulates the case for support and has the ability to train others to do so.

Human Resource Management:

Directs, plans and coordinates the work of the fundraising staff, including supervision, evaluation, training and team building.

Provides the motivation and support for the staff and Board to create a team environment that results in a successful fundraising effort.

Manages entire department including interns which includes:

• Organizing and leading departmental meetings to maintain effective communication.

• Ensuring there is adequate and qualified staff to carry out fundraising.

• In consultation with the CEO, responsibility for the selection, hiring, coaching and discipline of the fundraising team.

• Engage volunteers for special fund projects using established volunteer management guidelines.

Qualifications:

• College degree

• A certificate in Fundraising Management an asset

• Knowledge of fundraising management

• Knowledge of special events planning and management

• Knowledge of the management of volunteer resources

• Knowledge of fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge)

• Communicates effectively orally and on paper.

• Sense of humor

• Project Management skills

• Ability to regularly interact with donors to solicit major gifts

• Strong commitment to the mission of Philip’s Educational Partners

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of frontline fundraising experience for non-profit organizations, including several years in major gift fundraising (capital campaign experience is a plus) and experience managing and mentoring team members. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to think strategically and creatively and to set and meet financial goals. Persuasive writing and oral communications skills are essential for this job. The candidate must exhibit strong attention to detail and the demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work on several simultaneous projects.
