With roots dating to the founding of Springfield City Hospital in 1873, Baystate Health has been providing skilled and compassionate health care in the Pioneer Valley for more than 140 years. The advancement of knowledge is a major component of our mission. We educate and train current and future caregivers, preparing much of our region’s health care workforce to meet patients’ needs for years to come. We’re also engaged in health research throughout our system, studying cutting-edge therapies and analyzing the effectiveness and value of the care provided to patients across the nation. With more than 12,000 team members, Baystate Health is one of western Massachusetts’ strongest economic engines, delivering over $2.6 billion in yearly economic impact (as of 2009). In service of our mission, we work to bring health care out of the hospital and into the community. From support of community-based organizations, to programs that help prepare our young people for future success, to early interventions in wellness and nutrition, we aspire to deliver—and achieve—a higher state of caring in every relationship and at every stage of life.
