Job Description:

Position Overview

The hiring if a new Development Director comes at an exciting inflection point in CEO's history. CEO is now recognized as the leading provider reentry employment services and is poised t expand its influence and impact in the year ahead. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to serve 9,000 participants annually and open into 20 new national stes. The Development Director wil lead CEO's philanthropic and earned income generation and have primary responsibility for strengthening the infrastructure needed to support and grow our budget through government, foundation, earned incme and other emerging revenue streams. Reporting to the Executive Direcors of CEO New York State and CEO National, the Development Director will create and execute CEO's national fundraising strategy an dbe a key cross-site team member. S/he wll lead a 4-person team in writing proposals and reports, prospecting, and developing and implementing ideas to deepen CEo's core employment program offerings. The Development Director will also support the expansion and diversification of CEO's donor base and pipeline, working closely with other team members to secure funding for new and existing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

In partnership with the executive team and County Directors, develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include foundation, government, earned income and new initiatives including major gifts and corporate philanthropy

Support and partner with the executive team, County Directors and board members on all major fundraising initiatives to help CEO sustain current capacity in four states and continue to grow the organization

Lead team in developing all proposals and reports, gathering research and analytic support, and ensuring all materials meet deadlines and are systematically tracked and archived

Lead the maintenance of CEO’s existing public and private sector stakeholders, including reporting to government and philanthropic supporters and also leading the efforts to ensure the sustainability of existing funding

Oversee research on funding sources and trends to position CEO ahead of major funding opportunities and changes

Provide coaching, guidance and feedback to the Development team on prospect research, proposal and report writing

Collaborate with County Directors, development team, and communications staff to cultivate, develop and mobilize the CEO network – volunteers, donors, champions, employers, etc. - as contributors

Work closely with the executive team to support board members in institutional and individual fundraising

Ensure the monitoring and acknowledgment of all individual donors

Champion the use of Salesforce as our donation system of record

Partner with program staff to manage and grow CEO’s network of volunteers who work directly with CEO participants

With program and executive team members, attend and represent CEO at key fundraising events, meetings, conferences, and speaking engagements

Collaborate with communications staff to implement CEO’s communications strategy, and ensure the development and use of print and digital collateral consistent with CEO’s brand

Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the Development programs

Travel approximately 25% to CEO offices, partner meetings and conferences; based out of CEO NYC or CA office

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Commitment to CEO’s mission and ability to speak persuasively to stakeholders about the CEO’s model and program achievements

Demonstrated success managing and developing people and teams

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to influence, engage and build relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

Strong organizational skills

Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives

High energy and commitment to CEO’s mission

Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plans

Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail

Commitment to a diverse, inclusive and collegial workplace

A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team member, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

8 years of professional experience in nonprofit development functions, including team management and success in growing a national budget

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; master’s degree or equivalent preferred in communications, public relations, business, nonprofit management, marketing or related field

Demonstrated success managing and forging relationships with both internal teams and multiple funding sources, and cultivating and expanding funder relationships over time
