Director of Gift Planning

The Planned Giving Manager works to attract significant support for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. priorities through the implementation of a strategic and effective planned giving program. This includes actively managing a portfolio of planned gift prospects and donors and performing targeted research on planned giving prospects; overseeing and creating the overall planned giving marketing plan and publications; and directing stewardship programs related to planned gifts to ensure long-term commitment of donors to **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. This position also oversees and collaborates with the Gift Planning Associate in day to day marketing efforts to ensure they are following the production calendar and that the materials are of a high-quality for our donors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a portfolio of 30-50 planned gift donors and prospects; conduct prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and closure of gifts.
Oversee and manage annual planned giving marketing strategy and production calendar, including the testing of new strategies, channels, packages, etc. Work with Gift Planning Associate to regularly analyze production performance and adjust strategy as necessary.
Draft content for newsletters, acquisition letters, donor profiles and other marketing materials as needed.
Oversee and implement the collection and input of data and the subsequent analysis and reporting of that data.
Apply expert knowledge of charitable planned giving techniques and planned giving opportunities to maximize private support.
Apply knowledge of planned gift vehicles and asset types to structure planned gifts with maximum benefit to donors and **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***..
Build and maintain relationships with Wildlife Legacy Society members and actively work to engage members to increase participation.
Collaborate with Marketing and Database teams to identity best prospects for cultivation activities like personal visits, phone calls, and email.
Collaborate effectively with Major Gifts and Research colleagues within the Development Office to maximize the potential of current donors for blended gift opportunities, and identifying planned giving prospects.
Plan and oversee logistics of planned giving events and work collaboratively other Development colleagues to include planned giving donors and prospects in various internal events.
Oversee planned giving website and social media platforms and develop initiatives to further Defenders’ online presence regarding planned giving.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in related discipline
: 4 years of relevant development experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Previous experience in creating and editing marketing materials for planned giving
Strong technological aptitude, including advanced skills using Microsoft Word and Excel with willingness to learn specialized software such as Revolution Online database and PG Calc gift planning program
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with both management and support staff as well as our broad base of donors
Excellent writing and proofreading skills and knowledge of grammar
Ability to take ownership of a process and to use problem-solving skills to resolve issues
Strong professionalism with the ability to function efficiently in a busy environment
Expected to work independently and/or as a team member with initiative, motivation, flexibility, organization, and attention to accuracy of projects and tasks
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and communicate with others while doing so.
General office working conditions, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
