Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Director of Annual Giving will design, implement and manage all aspects of a comprehensive Annual Giving program. In this role, the Director will oversee all Annual Giving programs including: Leadership Giving, Reunion Giving, Direct Mail, Phonathon, Class Agents, Parents and Alumni Parents Giving as well as other targeted constituent appeals and programs. The Director plans, organizes, implements and manages all activities of the Annual Giving program including identification, cultivation, solicitations, acquisition, stewardship, and documentation. The Director is a key member of a team responsible for growing participation percentages, moving donors to higher levels of giving and building a deeper annual giving culture at the School. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as an Annual Giving professional with expertise in relationship management both internally with staff and colleagues as well as externally with donors and volunteers. This candidate will also possess strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrate success in thinking creatively, excellent management and organizational skills, the willingness to travel and the ability to work some nights and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the daily operations of the Annual Giving program.
Establish and monitor monthly goals for entire Annual Giving volunteer team.
Develop and manage constituent mailings, acquisition programs and special fundraising appeals.
Develop and manage programs for lapsed donors of all constituencies.
Design and manage donor stewardship programs, including acknowledgment policies.
Identify new sources of support for individual giving. Work with Director of Advancement to coordinate the solicitation of new prospects and the upgrade of current donors who have the potential to increase their annual giving.
Prepare and analyze all Annual Giving reports; collaborate with the Advancement Office Coordinator in managing the Raiser’s Edge database including reports, queries and gift acknowledgment letters.
Provide regular reports on membership growth and trends for Director of Advancement and the School’s Advancement Committee.
Develop a yearly plan and calendar of Annual Giving solicitations and stewardship.
Create volunteer/solicitor training program, materials and communications.
Establish metrics to assess progress of each program.
With the Advancement Office Coordinator, plan and manage Raiser’s Edge database upgrades.
Coordinate the planning and implementation of advancement office events and projects.
Establish and monitor goals for team which include both personal visits and solicitation targets.
Participate fully in the life of the School including serving as an advisor to students.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of progressively successful experience in Annual Giving, leading an Annual Giving program with revenues in excess of $1,000,000, preferably in education.
Ability to cultivate and build superior relationships with donors for purposes of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts to the School.
Ability to interact with all levels of the school community – the Head of School, faculty and staff, the Board of Trustees, alumni, parents and friends of the school.
Experience with database segmentation and a keen understanding and ability to market the Annual Giving program to different audiences.
Able to write clear and compelling direct mail copy and various forms of motivational matter.
Experience with online fundraising including marketing through social media.
Ability to recognize among Annual Giving donors the potential for significant major and planned gifts
Experience identifying, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers.
Strong knowledge of social media.
An open and collaborative style.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
State of the art computer skills including experience with fundraising database, Raiser’s Edge.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and regularly adjust strategy based on giving trends.
Must be an independent and strategic thinker capable of understanding the full scope of projects while seeing individual tasks through to completion.
Must be project oriented, able to handle several tasks simultaneously, possessing an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure while managing deadlines.
