Job Description Summary:
The incumbent will lead the effort to raise funds to support the National Capital Poison Center and will have the lead and primary responsibility for ensuring adequate financial support for all programs. The total organizational budget exceeds $5 million/year. The two major functions that require funding include: 1) a ground-breaking on-line poison control software application (webPOISONCONTROL), used internationally, and 2) core poison control operations for the DC metro area. The webPOISONCONTROL app is the first online automated triage tool for poison emergencies - it provides free, expert triage recommendations online for those who prefer to use the internet instead the telephone to get poison help. The incumbent will be expected to develop and implement creative and new funding strategies as well as ensure continuation of existing funding sources. Funding targets will include but will not be limited to individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources. Duties will include:
-Develops and implements new, innovative and comprehensive fundraising strategies for the webPOISONCONTROL app and core operations for National Capital Poison Center.
-Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major and minor contributions for the Poison Center from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources, without supervision.
-Ensures adequate funding for the National Capital Poison Center's projects and core operations.
-Implements all aspects of the fundraising plan, including strategy development and implementation, and preparation of grants and fund-raising proposals (narratives and budgets).
-Performs the lead and critical role in developing meaningful connections with Poison Center partners, advocates, and potential advocates, including new and existing stakeholders and supporters.
-Engages one-on-one with supporters to ensure continued support and works closely with existing donors to move them towards stronger engagement and support.
-Performs prospect visits and calls in pursuit of all funding goals.
-Works with and organizes partners and volunteers to achieve the Center's fund-raising goals.
-Engages and supports the board of directors in activities related to fund raising.
-Develops and implements a corporate partnership program for the webPOISONCONTROL project.
-Optimizes online giving using social media and online fund-raising tools.
-Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years of specialized high level development experience, and evidence of successful fund raising or related strategic business development efforts are required. Proven successes with grant-writing, corporate partnerships, lobbying, and social media fund raising. Demonstrated prior success in any of these areas may substitute for years of experience. Must be able to create and implement a comprehensive and successful program without supervision.
