At this point in time, the VPP position described herein will directly oversee the managers of national programs, whereas the other VPP position will directly oversee the regional offices. The VPPs will work closely to provide overall leadership for AFTs programs and integration of AFTs national and regional programming. These portfolios may shift over time, as needed, to allow AFT to most efficiently oversee all of its programming.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003Eu0026nbsp;u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe Vice President for Programs (VPP) provides leadership and direct support for AFTu0026#39;s national programming. A working knowledge of both agriculture and conservation is necessary. The VPP reports to the President.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe VPP is part of AFTs Executive Team and Management Team. In addition, the VPP serves on the Program Strategy Team which guides the overall direction of AFTs programming.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe VPP actively collaborates and coordinates with the other VPP to help ensure that AFTs programming is strategic, synergistic, efficiently-delivered, well-received, and impactful.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe VPP works most closely with the managers of national programs, but also works with other staff to foster staff collaboration and integration of national and regional programming.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe VPP will be based at AFTs National Office in Washington DC.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003Eu003Cstrongu003EDuties and Responsibilitiesu003C/strongu003Eu003Cbr /u003Ernu003Cbr /u003ErnThe primary responsibilities of this position are to provide leadership and support for AFTs national program managers to advance AFTs mission across the nation. Specific responsibilities include:u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003Eu003Cu style=text-decoration:underline\u003ELeadership Responsibilitiesu003C/uu003Eu003C/pu003Ernrnu003Culu003Erntu003Cliu003EWorks with the President and other staff to ensure that the work of national managers is effectively integrated into national strategies and programming decisions;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EWork with the VP for Finance and Administration and other staff to develop and implement operating processes for national programming, to enhance clarity, efficiency, efficacy, and morale;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EWorks with Communications staff to actively communicate about national programming and its impact across the country;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EWorks with Development staff in fundraising for national programming and supports national program managers in fostering strong financial support for their work;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EPrepares reports for the President and the Board of Directors regarding AFTs national programming based on sound metrics. (The two VPPs are together responsible for the written Program Report prepared for every meeting of the Board of Directors.)u003C/liu003Ernu003C/ulu003Ernrnu003Cpu003Eu003Cu style=text-decoration:underline\u003ERole with National Programsu003C/uu003Eu003C/pu003Ernrnu003Culu003Erntu003Cliu003EPlays the lead role in recruiting, hiring, supervising and conducting performance reviews of national program managers;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003ERegularly communicates with national program managers to provide support and guidance in the development, management and implementation of workplans and budgets;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EApproves financial reports, contracts and other financial and administrative documents as needed;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EFosters collaboration and coordination amount national program managers and between national program managers and regional directors.u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003EAssists with the design and delivery of on-boarding, training and the development of a supportive culture for new national program managers and other their staff;u003C/liu003Erntu003Cliu003ESupports a strong team culture of shared learning among national program managers.u003C/liu003Ernu003C/ulu003Ernrnu003Cpu003Eu0026nbsp;u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Cpu003EThe VPP must be outgoing and energetic and have direct professional experience working with field staff in diverse settings across the nation. The individual must have knowledge of agriculture, conservation and other subjects pertaining to AFTs mission. The VPP must be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills (public presentation, phone, writing, partner relations) and creativity are essential.u003C/pu003Ernrnu003Culu003Erntu003Cliu003EA BA or BS degree and a minimum of 12 years of related work experience in public policy, land use planning, agriculture, farmland protection, land conservation or natural resource planning.
