Position Summary:The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (UAF) seeks a leader who will serve as dean for the College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD). The dean will be the chief academic officer of CRCD, reporting to the vice chancellor of rural, community and Native education, and will have responsibility for leading the college and managing its resources to accomplish its teaching, research and service mission. CRCD advances and disseminates knowledge through innovative teaching, research and public service with an emphasis on Alaska. The college promotes students' self-motivation to excel and guides them toward professional careers in an environment of lifelong learning.
100As chief academic officer for the CRCD, the dean is responsible for the academic, personnel, financial, and administrative affairs of the college. The dean is also responsible for communicating the vision and goals of the CRCD to community partners and seeking public and private funds to support the goals of the college, its external stakeholders, including alumni, the business community as well as with external funding agencies.
Provide leadership to CRCD students, faculty and staff that fosters and sustains college-wide excellence in teaching, research and service, and prepares and supports a professional workforce.
Manage college resources to achieve the teaching, research and service mission of CRCD.
Market the college on and off campus, particularly as it pertains to student recruiting and as a knowledge-hub for northern region challenges, solutions and opportunities.
Support and implement funding initiatives and overall programmatic direction of CRCD.
Oversee and lead grants and contracts process, including research and compliance, in association with the office of grants and contracts office.
Support diversity among CRCD students, staff and faculty.
Oversee the daily operations of CRCD through the supervision (e.g., recruit, select, train, schedule, mentor, and discipline) of professional exempt, classified staff and faculty. Ensure assigned faculty and staff adhere to acceptable behavior and performance standards. Ensure that university policies and procedures, and faculty collective bargaining agreements for faculty unions, are followed.Essential

Reporting to the vice chancellor of rural, community and Native education and collaborating with all constituent areas of the college, the dean provides college-wide vision, strategic planning, leadership and coordination of academic programs and endeavors that support student success and award completion at the college. Providing an example of the highest quality performance and ensuring the academic integrity of all instruction, the dean provides leadership, motivation, recruitment, supervision, evaluation, and professional development for full-time and adjunct faculty. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating and implementing academic strategies that maximize student efforts for award completion, developing an efficient and productive schedule of class offerings that includes the optimal mix of traditional, online, hybrid courses and classes, initiating, assisting, and coordinating assessment and program review processes, performing day to day management functions to include administration and direct management of: budgets, faculty workload and productivity, enrollment, dual enrollment business, and off campus site business. The dean also participates in college-wide administrative meetings involving enrollment management, retention efforts, advising, assessment, textbooks, technology, and policy development and assumes the concomitant responsibilities of the charges that result from those discussions. The dean performs a range of student-related duties, including individual conferences, authorizing course add/drop and substitutions, advising, providing transfer assistance, and resolving any concerns and formal complaints.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong planning, communications, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of and experience with best practices in teaching and learning.
Demonstrated ability to lead faculty and academic programs.
Broad experience in program development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
Demonstrated experience in the development, growth, and management of programs for on-campus full-time student population and for student via distance.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, effectively, and enthusiastically with community leaders to
meet the rural community college needs of Alaska.
Knowledge of and experience working with diverse cultures, Alaska Native peoples, and/or other Indigenous peoples.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external communities and stakeholders including a multi-cultural, diverse and often multi-barriered student population.
Ability to develop and implement student success initiatives
Knowledge and ability to interpret and enforce rules, regulations, processes, and policies related to higher education administration including grant and sponsored program administration.
Considerable knowledge of community college administration practices and principles, curricula, instructional practices, and learning outcomes must be demonstrated.
Proven ability to work as a team player.
Demonstrated ability to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
Demonstrated skill in developing and managing a budget, equipment, and other institutional resources.
Familiarity with regional accreditation standards as well as any applicable specialized accreditation, certification, and licensure requirements.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive mission of CRCD.
Minimum of three years’ experience in progressively responsible leadership positions within higher education.
Fiscal and budget responsibility is required experience.
Experience working successfully with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Minimum of four years’ post-secondary teaching experience.
Experience to include academic managerial experience at the department level or above.
Experience with undergraduate research, scholarship or creative activities.
Experience with accreditation at the college and university level.
Experience in fundraising and securing external support.
Positive change management experience.

Doctor of Philosophy, PhD or Juris Doctor, JD or Doctor of Education, EdD
Salary: commensurate with experience.
