Position Description: Director of Development The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director to plan and implement a sustainable fundraising program that advances the Family Service mission.The Director of Development is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgment and stewardship of all gifts to the agency in accordance with best practices.nThe Director of Development also contributes to the development of marketing and communications, including advertising, media relations, social media communications and the agency web site.The Director of Development participates in budgeting, strategic planning and program evaluation as requested by the Executive Director.Job Duties: uf0b7 The DevelopmentnnDirector will work to ensure that all fundraising - events and initiatives are in alignment with the mission and goals of Family Service.uf0b7 Develop and execute fundraising plan to increase contributions from all sources, including foundations, individuals, and corporate gifts.uf0b7nnMaintain donor records, increase donor database and activities to a diverse type of community and acknowledge donations.Individual must exhibit a forthcoming and trustworthy relationship with Administrative staff.uf0b7 Collaborate with the Executive Director and Financial Director to execute a strategy to meet funding needs of all departments.uf0b7nnCollaborate with Executive Director and Finance Committee to develop and implement fundraising goals, campaign tracking and solicitation strategies.uf0b7 Responsible for public speaking, public relations, event planning and execution as assigned.uf0b7 Oversee production of all print and virtual relations and marketing materials, including newsletters, updates and annual reports.uf0b7nnPrepares and submits grant proposals in conjunction with the Executive Director to meet the needs of the various programs of Family Service.Collaborates with Finance and various departments in acquiring necessary input for grant proposals.Researches grant makers and information required to complete grant applications/requests.Makes appropriate contacts to foundations/organizations.Writes succinct and clear proposals.Upon acceptance of grant, follows up with appropriate reporting procedures.uf0b7nnManages the planned Giving Program: Develops and maintains planned giving policy and administrative procedures for gifts.Works with select legal counsel and trust officers to manage types of gift options.Creates literature to identify gift options.Identifies potential donors and initiates plan for cultivation.Educates constituencies.Visits donors and prospects.nnResource Development:nn1.Implement the annual fundraising plan, including strategies and tactics for the solicitation of annual gifts, major gifts, grants and special events; evaluate the success and effectiveness of each activity.nn2.Personally solicit annual, major and planned gifts.nn3.Guide and lead volunteers and staff in the solicitation of annual, major and planned gifts.nn4.Implement and manage the planned giving plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Director of Finance, and the Family Service of Billings Foundation; evaluate success and effectiveness annually.Involve board members in fundraising activities as appropriate.nn5.Organize and coordinate all facets of major fund-raising events.nn6.Lead volunteers in the planning, execution and evaluation of special events.nn7.Guide and lead volunteers and staff in the solicitation of sponsorships and in-kind gifts for special events.nn8.Personally solicit sponsorships and in-kind gifts for special events.nn9.Conduct special event de-brief sessions with key stakeholders and produce a formal evaluation report that includes return on investment data and a recap of successes, challenges and future opportunities for improvement of special events.nnDonor Relations/Donor Communication: 1.Maintain the donor and volunteer stewardship plan; evaluate appropriateness and effectiveness semi-annually.2.Ensure timely, personalized acknowledgment of gifts according to donor-centered standards.3.In collaboration with the Executive Director, demonstrate accountability for gifts through annual reports, newsletters, special reports and other communications.4.Involve board members in donor and volunteer stewardship as appropriate.nnDatabase Management: 1.Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of donor information, with the assistance of the administrative assistant.Marketing Communications: 1.Implement advertising, media relations and community outreach activities.2.Fine-tune and maintain the agency web site with the most compelling information about agency programs, services, success stories and giving opportunities.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.nnREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: uf0b7 Exceptional leadership and planning skills.uf0b7 Knowledge and understanding of best practices in non-profit fund development.uf0b7 Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.uf0b7 Excellent written and oral communication skills.uf0b7 Ability to manage multiple projects, details and timelines in a fast-paced environment.uf0b7 Confidence to recommend improvements and changes that best serve agency needs.uf0b7 Ability to work effectively with board members, donors, community partners, employees, volunteers, clients and other stakeholders to advance the Family Service mission.nnQUALIFICATIONS: uf0b7 Commitment to the mission and vision of Family Service, Inc.uf0b7 Bacheloru2019s degree in business, communicatons or related field.uf0b7 Minimum 5 yearsu2019 verifiably successful experience in fundraising.uf0b7 Commitment to ethical fundraising and donor stewardship.uf0b7 Personal dedication to professional development and continuous program improvement.
