Our Department of Psychology has an outstanding opportunity for an Advancement & Outreach Officer. The Advancement & Outreach Officer will be responsible for activities designed to enhance public awareness of and increase private support for the Department of Psychology and its programs. The Advancement & Outreach Officer will plan, manage, and implement department efforts to build relationships with alumni and friends of the department, attract private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations and promote the department regionally, nationally, and globally. Responsibilities include advancement activities, gift stewardship, alumni and donor relations, external communications, and planning events supporting donor cultivation and stewardship. This position has extensive direct contact with the departmentu2019s diverse internal and external audiences including alumni and donors, friends, faculty, staff and students. This position will work closely with both the College of Arts and Sciences Advancement Team and Department of Psychology. Advancement/Fundraising u2022 Partner with Chair of Psychology to develop and maintain annual fundraising plans and objectives for Psychology Advancement activities. u2022 Maintain relationships with alumni, donors, and friends, with the ultimate goal of raising leadership gifts ($2,000 - $24,999) through personal solicitations. u2022 Work with the College of Arts and Sciences Advancement Team to research and develop strategies for major gift prospects. Assist in preparing written materials to support requests for major gifts. Use the University's prospect management and tracking system. u2022 Oversee and coordinate annual giving efforts with Central Advancement, including the student calling programs and direct mail activities. u2022 Coordinate stewardship activities, including but not limited to writing gift acknowledgments, planning and implementing recognition events, writing and coordinating stewardship packets to endowment donors, and coordinating student correspondence to scholarship/fellowship donors. u2022 Process all gifts sent to the department. u2022 Prepare reports on fundraising and gift budget activity for department as requested. u2022 Act as liaison between the department and College of Arts and Sciences and University Advancement; act as point of contact for all Advancement-related business. Attend Advancement meetings and events as scheduled. u2022 Provide guidance to other department faculty and staff on outreach and fundraising. u2022 Play an active role in creating and maintaining a culture of philanthropy within the department. Outreach u2022 Plan and coordinate department advancement events, including the Edwards Public Lecture Series. Develop guest lists, create invitations, draft briefings, and manage follow-up strategy. Coordinate travel and catering as necessary. u2022 Write and manage production of department communications, including biannual newsletters, fact sheets, social media and website content. u2022 Collaborate with the UW Office of News to increase department visibility through media relations and press releases. u2022 Supervise a Program Coordinator who supports the departmentu2019s outreach activities. Requirements u2022 A bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field. u2022 At least two years of experience in fundraising, alumni relations, communications, or related activity. u2022 Demonstrated ability to (1) develop and implement a plan to achieve organization goals, (2) build positive relationships, (3) interact successfully with diverse populations and (4) work independently and as a member of a team. u2022 Must be interested in, and become well informed on, issues in scientific research and science education and be able to communicate them to a broad audience. u2022 Must demonstrate excellent writing skills and be able to tell a compelling story. u2022 Must have strong interpersonal, customer service and verbal communication skills. u2022 Values the UWu2019s commitment to inclusiveness; demonstrates respect and commitment to diversity. u2022 Proficiency with computer applications such as those found in MS Office, email, and the Internet. u2022 Willingness and ability to learn and use UWu2019s ADVANCE database system, Cvent event software, Marketo e-marketing software, the Leadership Gift tracking system, and other proprietary computer applications. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Desired u2022 Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the database software ADVANCE u2022 Fundraising or alumni relations experience in a higher education setting. u2022 Event planning experience. u2022 Familiarity with the local business and philanthropic community.
