Shriners Hospitals for Children – Houston, located in the heart of the prominent Texas Medical Center, has an immediate, one of a kind, opening for a Development Officer I. \r\rPosition Summary:\r\rHospital-based position that reports directly to the Director of Donor Development with a reporting relationship to the Corporate Director of Donor Development through the Senior Regional Director of Donor Development. \r\rIdentifies and cultivates prospective donors across Texas to donate funds through gifts, awards, grants, endowments, bequests and other charitable contribution methods. Nurtures donor relationships through regular contact, communication and recognition. For the purpose of fund raising, develops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shriner Temples and the local community. Responsible for following and fulfilling the objectives and goals disseminated by Shriners Hospitals for Children’s national and local boards as well as the Corporate Director of Donor Development. The position is based at SHC-Houston and works to raise funds on a state-wide level. The position requires the willingness and ability to travel as needed and to occasionally work evenings and weekends when necessary. \r
Required Education:\r\r\r Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. \r\r\rRequired License/Certification:\r\r\r Professional development accreditation preferred. \r\r\rTraining and Experience:\r\r\r At least three (3) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with at least one (1) year of experience working with major giving and planned giving programs.\r A demonstrable track record of fundraising accomplishments is essential, including experience in contributing to a major gifts program as a core component of philanthropic activity.\r Must have experience closing major gifts from individuals, with a working knowledge of planned giving vehicles.\r Healthcare fundraising helpful. \r\r\rSkills and Knowledge \r \r\r Strong Development management and leadership skills.\r Strong written and oral communication skills.\r Effective time management skills.\r Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work successfully with colleagues, donors, administrators, and volunteers.\r Must be a facilitator with excellent management skills and results-oriented.\r Highly developed ability to work independently within a strong teamwork philosophy as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals.\r Strong computer skills and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.\r Donor database experience preferred.\r Detail-oriented with respect to planning, file analysis and record keeping is essential.\r Skilled in prospect management and prospect research.\r Informed and committed to the work of Shriner Hospitals for Children and its importance for the future.\r Comfortable working in a dynamic environment; adaptable to change.\r Flexible in working hours, ability and willingness to travel.\r Confident, professional, energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and absolutely ethical.\r A “people person\ who is genuinely interested in others and an active listener.\r Knowledgeable about a broad range of interests and having the ability to comfortably converse on many subjects. \r \r \r\r
