Director of Development, working under the direction of the Associate Chief

Development Officer for Leadership Support, is responsible for successfully

soliciting donations and working with donors who give, and/or are capable of

giving, more than $50,000 to the NCH Healthcare System, including individuals,

corporations and foundations. Works with Foundation Committee members,

Executive Management, trustees, physicians, volunteers and other development

staff to identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects. As part of the

Foundation team, assists with strategic leadership in the design and

implementation of development programs needed to sustain major gift fundraising

activities. Primary responsibilities will include assisting the Foundation with

all fund raising activities including capital and major gifts, donor

recognition and cultivation, planned giving, grant-writing, special events,

annual giving programs, and other initiatives to increase private support.



Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for identifying, cultivating,

soliciting and obtaining major gifts ($5,000 ).

Coordinate the identification, cultivations,

solicitation and stewardship, those individuals, corporations, or foundations

able to make gifts of $50,000-$100,000 or more to the Foundation, both on an

Annual basis and for Capital Campaigns, special campaigns, planned giving

opportunities and others.

Managing a specific portfolio of prospects

starting with 150, which will increase, making prospect visits and establish

procedures for identifying, researching and cultivating soliciting prospective


Assist the writing and designing of all

printed materials related to the NCH Healthcare Foundation. These may include

mail solicitation pieces, brochures, newsletters, Board reports, etc.

Participate in team meetings for managing and

tracking top prospective donors.

Research and identify new major donor

prospects on an ongoing basis.

Ensure appropriate acknowledgement and

recognition of all major gifts and contributions.

Arrange appropriate tours and cultivation

events, meetings and/or introductions of major donors, major donor prospects to

NCH staff and administration.

Prepare illustrations for planned gifts,

calculate present or value of gifts, and research more complex gift plans as


Oversee print and digital planned giving


Oversee Banyan Society, working with DOD's to

reach yearly growth goals

Call or visit assigned planned giving prospects

Work, in conjunction with the ACDO, to manage

major fundraising campaigns for the facilities and programs of NCH Healthcare

Foundation and NCH Healthcare System.

Manage prospect portfolio with a clearly

defined base of goals for activity, solicitations, stewardship; etc

Meet specific metric-based goals and

objectives in the timeline of expectation and performance with examples

including, but not limited to:

Minimum face-to-face calls (season/off-season)

e.g. 30 / month (more likely)

Minimum other contacts


Minimum solicitations delivered before end of

year / months

Dollar goals and solicitation schedules

Budget accountability

Timely reporting of activities

Follow stringent protocols

Performance measurement overall will be tied

to specific goals and success

Work with CDO and others to expand all Giving

Opportunities, such as Planned giving and Grant Writing

Assist in design and implementation of an

integrated planned giving program, including selection of promotional

literature, counseling of prospective donors, and conferring with appropriate

professionals (e.g. tax accounting, trust officers, attorneys, etc.)

Be responsible for the effective integration

of planned giving concepts that will assist prospects fund current giving as

well as longer-term deferred gifts

Prepare proposals for planned and major gifts

Assist in the research, evaluation, and

coordination of all grant requests making sure that grant applications are

appropriate in terms of goals and objectives of the Foundation

When appropriate, recommend the use of

professional counsel in the Foundation and represents the Foundation in its

relationships with such professionals

Ensure compliance with all state and federal

laws and regulations as they pertain to nonprofits

Assist foundation with overall fund-raising


Assist with management of the fund-raising

process with a view to serving the needs of the donor

Formulate, define and recommend to the Associate

Chief Development Officer for Leadership Support fundraising goals and

objectives that coordinate with the strategic goals of the NCH Healthcare


Assists with special events for the foundation

as requested

Represent the complete institution (NCH

Healthcare Foundation and NCH Healthcare System) and the spectrum of giving

with assigned prospects

Recommend income and expense budget goals for

this area to the Associate Chief Development Officer for Leadership Support for

approval by Executive Management and the Board of Directors

Other responsibilities:

Perform additional duties and assignments as

reasonably requested by the ACDO of the NCH Healthcare Foundation in accordance

with qualifications

Represent the Foundation in the community by

participating in any and all appropriate civic organizations, social events,

health system functions, etc.

Maintain up to date knowledge and expertise in

all aspects of philanthropy

Maintain a high degree of motivation and

superior work ethic consistent with the mission and values of NCH Healthcare


Work cooperatively towards the identification

of areas needing improvement and welcomes opportunities for new and improved

processes. Looks for opportunities to improve job skills


Minimum of Bachelor's Degree

Minimum of 4 years of experience in a

non-profit development setting, preferably in healthcare, with a history of

increasingly responsible duties

Knowledge of fundraising principles,

especially major and planned gift development required

Proficiency and demonstrable capabilities in

ALL forms of planned giving to foster deferred gifts and to support current

gift fulfillments by donors (regular training/role playing/scenario development


Willingness to work long hours, including

evenings and weekends, especially during season
