Job Description

The Senior Director of Development reports to the VP of Strategy & Evaluation and provides overall leadership for fundraising and development programs including major gift fundraising, annual gift fundraising,
gifts and sponsorships, planned giving, prospect research, fundraising special events and donor database. The Senior Director of Development serves as a member of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Senior Leadership Team and works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and donors at all levels to develop both long-term and immediate strategies and programs for the engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of constituents in all matters pertaining to the advancement and philanthropic support of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The Leadership Team of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is a high performing unit of experienced and qualified professionals and all team members are expected to perform to the highest standard on a daily basis. A candidate considered for this position must be self-motivated, highly competent, an excellent communicator, dynamic and adaptable, and a team player. Candidates must also demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s expertise in researching and delivering interventions that improve childhood outcomes and how development plays a role in sustaining the mission.
Provides leadership to and coordinates the development program including planning and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies for foundations, corporations, and individual donors in order to meet the ongoing financial needs of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***..
Partners with the CEO, VP of Strategy, and Board Development Committee to plan, execute, and direct cost-effective, results-oriented strategies for prospect/donor cultivation and solicitation in alignment with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s vision, mission, and goals.
Oversees all development activities including capital campaigns, major gifts, special events, planned giving, prospect research, grant writing, donor cultivation, and stewardship program.
Work with senior leadership to develop strategic and operational plans including creation and management of development budgets
Work closely with the CEO to build relationships with key stakeholders such as community members, foundations, corporations, and individuals while expanding and diversifying the donor base through an ongoing cultivation and stewardship program.
Provide oversight of volunteer management program including working with other departments to identify volunteer opportunities, and assisting in engaging, recruiting and managing volunteers.
Cultivate and solicit a development pipeline for major and planned gifts (gifts in excess of $10,000)
Develop, execute, monitor, and evaluate staff development plans and results; set goals and metrics and performance objectives; measure, ensure, and encourage staff progress toward results-based goals and objectives.
Actively participate in the solicitation and stewardship of major gifts and corporate and foundation grants. Identify funder priorities and work with Grants Manager to strategically generate proposals that both meet **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s funding needs and the impact investment priorities of funders.
Manage staff efforts to produce and implement various fundraising events and promotions. Provide leadership, oversight and implementation of fundraising events to achieve revenue goals around special events, corporate sponsorships and other corporate and foundation gifts.
Collaborate with Marketing on communications with current and prospective donors through appeals, letters, newsletters, publications, website, social media, email alerts and all other organizational communications efforts.
Utilize data gathering and analysis tools; perform meaningful analysis and reports on data from various sources including current programs, market data and donor database
Gauge progress toward goals with monthly and annual reporting; set performance objectives and metrics; monitor and provide periodic progress reports to senior leadership.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as business, marketing, or communications; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience in development work and demonstrated success in fundraising.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in effectively managing staff, teams, and budgets.
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and coaching to build a strong and effective fundraising team.
Knowledge, experience, and proven success in managing fundraising initiatives with demonstrated experience and competency in annual campaigns, capital campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and sponsorships.
Proven experience soliciting and closing major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Strategic thinker who is results-oriented.
Superior negotiation, organizational, management, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and achieve departmental goals.
Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to effectively change course when necessary.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors.

Experience using Raiser’s Edge or similar development database programs.
