The Assistant Director of Development will serve as a leadership annual giving officer on behalf of Ohio University for the colleges/units and for University Advancement. The successful candidate will be responsible for the identification of potential annual gift donors; engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues; initiate first alumni contact; maintain development travel schedules; coordinate with all development staff and gift stewardship activities with donor relations; consult with University Advancement’s Organizational Giving office, Planned Giving office, and Major Giving office on cultivation strategies for donors or transition of prospect management related to those gift vehicles; the development of an annual gifts pipeline to build a qualified prospect base for the University; serve as liaison between the faculty, staff, students and potential supporters (individuals, corporations and foundations); serve as liaison among the faculty and staff of the assigned unit(s) and/or project(s), and the Office of the Vice President for Advancement.

Essential Functions:

1. Serve as a leadership annual giving officer by managing and meeting priorities and goals that coincide with strategic plans as defined by University Advancement and the colleges/units. Raise roughly $250,000 and conduct 160 visits annually. 30%

2. Identify constituents that may provide private support to Ohio University while acting as fundraiser/strategist/advisor for academic unit(s) and/or project(s) and secure dollar commitment at a level established. 25%

3. Consult with the organizational giving, planned giving, annual giving and major giving staff as needed to verify, cultivate and solicit constituents for annual gifts for the university and/or transition the constituent to major giving colleague for prospect management. 25%

4. Plan, implement and coordinate cultivation activities for prospects and donors. Initiate, develop and coordinate delivery of proposals to prospective supporters. 20%

Successful candidate must be a self-motivated person with a willingness and ability to travel.

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university required.

At least six months of fundraising or sales experience in identifying, cultivating and soliciting constituents or demonstrable experience in securing major gifts for non-profits.

**An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
