The Asia Foundation’s Resource Development Unit
in San Francisco is seekinga Director of Individual Giving. The Director of Individual Giving is responsible for developing and implementing The Asia Foundation's (TAF’s) major gifts fundraising strategy to support TAF programs, general operations, and strategic initiatives such as the Venture Fund; coordinating private fundraising campaign activity with the Chief Philanthropy Officer; managing the portfolio of individual and institutional donors supporting girls’ scholarship programs, and collaborating on activities that engage major donors such as legacy giving and the President’s Leadership Council.
Based in either San Francisco or New York City, the Director of Individual Giving will develop and maintain relationships with individuals and institutions whose interests intersect with TAF’s programmatic work, manage existing donor relationships, and direct or facilitate communications with current and prospective donors. S/he is responsible for day-to-day management of donor communications, donor stewardship, grant administration, producing special donor and cultivation events, and proposal/report management for current major donors in a dedicated donor portfolio of approximately 125 donors and prospects.
S/he reports to the Director of Resource Development (DRD) and works closely with and under the supervision of the Chief Philanthropy Officer. Also working with TAF's Office of the President and other senior leadership, program, and field office staff, s/he will develop fundraising initiatives directed toward new major donors for unrestricted and program support. S/he will also be responsible for developing and executing special events that effectively cultivate and steward current and prospective TAF major donors and developing content for general and targeted donor communications vehicles. S/he will ensure the production of high-quality written proposals to current and prospective major donors in her/his portfolio as well as timely reporting on ongoing or completed projects as appropriate. S/he will also manage the moves-management process of tracking donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for the donors in her/his portfolio.
: Six to eight years of experience in non-profit fundraising and/or marketing, including program management, with an emphasis on major gifts fundraising and external relations/public affairs. Comparable experience could include business development, corporate marketing, public relations, or public policy planning. Knowledge of the programs and operations of The Asia Foundation or similar international development organizations. Work experience in Asia or at an international organization working in Asia highly desired. Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and writing skills are essential. Budgeting skills required. Familiarity with database management/fundraising software including Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
: The following abilities or attributes are highly desirable: knowledge of individuals, and organizations concerned with Asia; knowledge of corporate social responsibility trends and philanthropic initiatives in the private sector; ability to work easily with individuals of a high professional, institutional, and civic stature; demonstrated project management skills; proven management skills; and familiarity with database management, prospect research, and the production of proposals and marketing materials for external audiences. Ability to multi-task under tight deadlines. Must be a team player and hardworking. Ability to travel as required.
