Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area seeks a dynamic Chief Development Officer who will serve as a Senior Executive and is passionately committed to bringing BGC programs to youth who will provide strategic leadership, planning, and execution for all aspects of the organization’s resource development and marketing efforts.
Key Roles
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for developing and overseeing annual and long-range fundraising, special events, volunteer services, marketing, social media, foundation requests, donor engagement, and donations (including major gifts) in support of policies, goals, and objectives initiatives to support the mission and highest priorities of BGCAA. The CDO is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations, and foundations. The CDO oversees a variety of fundraising initiatives including major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations and special events. The CDO also oversees the communications of BGCAA including media relations, marketing, website and other online strategies.
The CDO reports to the CEO. The CDO will direct all day-to-day operations and activities for the Resource Development Department while ensuring annual revenue targets ($8 MM for 2019) are met or exceeded. Additionally, the CDO leads a team-oriented, outcomes-driven Resource Development Department and oversees six direct reports. The CDO must be able to balance supervising direct reports, coaching their direct reports on management of their staff, managing a modest portfolio of donors, and also working collaboratively with the CEO to lead all major gift efforts for individuals, foundation, corporations and the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key member of the Club’s leadership team, and is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s fund development and marketing & communications efforts.
The CDO will lead the Resource Development & Marketing team that includes Donor Relations, Grants Administration, Business Development, Events, Community Engagement and Marketing.
Support and partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, Board President and Board Resource Development Chair and Committees to formulate and implement comprehensive fundraising objectives and strategies.
Evaluate existing fund development strategies and programs to optimize efforts across the entire organization in individual, corporate, foundation and government funding.
Develop and maintain relationships with key corporate and individual donors to cultivate, secure and elevate support.
Spend significant time in direct donor contact or strategic written communication that results in increased and retained gifts.
Execute, manage and lead with Development Team a multi-year, comprehensive effort to grow contributed revenue.
Lead and build a robust and sustainable major gifts program, including implementation of a Planned Giving program.
Manage direct reports in implementing and growing Club’s Annual Giving Campaign and event revenue, as well as coordinated marketing and communications strategies.
Develop and implement consistent and appropriate methods of acknowledging and recognizing donors and volunteers.
Use donor information to provide statistical analysis to Board and senior leaders.
Provide direction, support, and affirmation to the department staff. Conduct scheduled performance reviews.
Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.
High energy and passion for the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications or related field required. 5-10 years of professional experience in nonprofit organizations (and/or transferable experience), including demonstrated success in increasing responsibility in a development or advancement function.
Tangible experience in managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources, and in cultivating and expanding donor relationships over time.
Experience with campaign management and effective fundraising strategies.
Proven success in the field of Major Gift solicitation and secondarily in Corporate & Business development
Strong motivational and coaching skills.
Strong organizational skills and superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to construct, articulate and implement annual strategic development plan.
A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at one time.
Proficiency in using office and data base programs; graphic design equipment/program knowledge a plus.
