Fundraising Consultant Jobs description

Fundraising consultants provide independent advice and support in developing and/or executing strategic, operational plans. Their main goal is to meet defined fundraising targets, objectives, and aspirations. Fundraising consultants may be individuals, employees of a company, or individuals belonging to an association of individuals.

Bulk of a fundraising consultant’s job involves requesting support from businesses and individuals, and sometimes explaining what the raised funds will be used for. Since there are many ways to raise funds, this can be a very creative position.

A fundraising consultant typically: trains and motivates people in all aspects of fundraising; creates fundraising plans and helps in implementing and evaluating those plans; researches prospective donors and writes proposals; manages mailing lists and donor information; conducts feasibility studies; studies and recommends structural changes in an organization to improve functioning and fundraising efficiency; and helps in hiring fundraising staff.

Employers usually bring in fundraising consultants when they: need someone with skill and knowledge who cares about the issues of the organization, but is far enough removed to have perspective on how it can improve its overall fundraising; need help deciding on a course of action related to fundraising; need someone to carry out a time-limited fundraising task; and/or need someone to provide guidance to an inexperienced fundraising staff.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or diploma in business, arts administration, marketing, or communications; previous fundraising experience; strong communication skills; marketing skills; proven experience in budgeting and managing money; and strong organizational skills.
